Sonhadores Praticantes": The Pro Program Returns with a New Name and Partnership

Following the success of last year’s pilot edition — funded by the Australian Embassy and met with strong enthusiasm from the local community — it became clear there was a real appetite for more. That response, combined with SOMA Surf’s mission, inspired us to go further and launch the first official edition of the program, building on everything we learned from that initial experience.
True to our core values of collaboration and network-building — and with a clear sense that our strength isn’t in technical training or formal education — we sought out a partner whose work complements ours. That’s how our partnership with Solo Adventures was born.
Together, we’re proud to introduce the new face of the Pro Program: “Sonhadores Praticantes”. This next phase brings a deeper, more intentional approach to human development, focusing on empowerment, self-awareness, and helping young people design meaningful lives and projects with real impact.
What is “Sonhadores Praticantes”?
It’s a mentorship and empowerment journey that blends SOMA’s transformative energy with the proven methodology of Solo Adventures. The goal is to help young women, aged 17 or older from Santana's village, São Tomé, to dream with intention — and take practical, confident steps toward turning those dreams into reality. Through emotional support, hands-on tools, and a strong sense of community, participants are equipped to shape their futures with purpose.
A partnership to expand horizons
Solo Adventures is a community focused on personal growth, emotional development, and connection — with a presence in Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique. Together with SOMA, we’re co-creating a program that goes beyond skills training. This is about listening, sharing, and taking action.
What participants can expect:
- Surf lessons
- One-on-one mentoring with experienced volunteers
- Workshops on purpose, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and leadership
- Practical tools for developing life projects
- Group sessions and community circles
- Ongoing support to help turn goals into action
This edition will run from June to August in Santana, São Tomé and will focus specifically on young women aged 17 or older, reflecting SOMA’s long-term commitment to surf, gender equity and social inclusion.
By supporting more young women to step into active, empowered roles in their own lives, we’re laying the groundwork for a more just and balanced society — one with stronger families, happier communities, and, ultimately, a more resilient and hopeful nation.
